“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
WHAT IS A DISCIPLESHIP GROUP?
A DISCIPLESHIP GROUP is a gathering of people who are committed to seeking and serving God together in three ways:
UP – In Scripture, worship, and prayer, we seek relationship with God
IN – In Christian fellowship, we seek relationship with one another in Christ.
OUT – In service and witness, we seek relationship with people outside our community of faith.
Each of these three elements are part of our efforts at Skyview to know Christ and to grow in him into mature followers for the sake of our city and our world.
Each Discipleship Group is unique. They gather in their own space, whether that space be a home, a community center, or a retirement residence. We are seeking to nurture three kinds of relationships: relationships with God, relationships of friendship and support, and relationships of outreach and service.
Our discipleship groups
We call ourselves the 'Family Group' partly because we are made up of families that are in various life stages, but mainly because we aim to be like family together. Our heart is to support each other to be all that God has called us to be, which includes living out His call to reach people who do not yet know about God. We currently meet over a potluck lunch every other week on Sundays from 12:30-2:30pm and would love you to join us! In January, our group will be launching a 10-week Alpha session on Sundays from 12:30-2:30pm, so we would also love you to consider joining us then as a group leader, group helper, meal provider, prayer support, and most importantly- inviting friends and family to attend.
If you are interested or have questions please talk to Vicki Wik or contact the church office at email@example.com.
This group meets every week on Friday to fellowship as well to share the word of God and doing out reach. The group also has a vibrant volleyball team that compete in a league that is organized by Calgary Sport and Social Club every Tuesday night. Talk to Oatlhotse Gabarone or contact the church office for more information.
This group gathers weekly for Bible Study and Prayer, and they’re also supporting an Iraqi family recently moved to Canada! For more information or to get involved please contact Pastor Stuart at firstname.lastname@example.org
Moms and Tots
Moms and Tots is for women with children from birth to kindergarten. We meet two Friday mornings per month at the church for encouragement and prayer. The kids play together while we catch up and spend some time praying for one another and for the church. We also have a Facebook group that shares encouragement, prayer and links to a Bible study throughout the week. If you're in this stage of life, we'd love to connect! Contact the church office or talk to Stephanie Henderson for more information.
Hope in Mental Wellness
This group meets every other Wednesday for a time of Bible study, prayer, education and fellowship around the topic of mental wellness. Contact Ricki Hendrickson at email@example.com for more information. All are welcome!
Tuesday Youth and Young Adult Bible Study
This group meets weekly for Bible Study and prayer, with occasional outreaches! If you’d like to join us as we support one another and discern where God is leading us collectively and personally, come on out at 7PM on Tuesdays to 26 Varcrest Place NW. Contact the church office for details.
Tuesday Ladies’ Bible Study
This women’s group meets bi-weekly for Bible Study and prayer, and are actively seeking how God may wish to use them to support other women in the community. If you’d like to join this group, please talk to Melaina Graham or Robyn Cabrera or contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Medium Adult’s Group
We exist as a community for those in the early years of post-university and early career adulthood. We are a place of belonging for those who still have lots of firsts to experience- career transitions, getting married, kids, buying a home, etc. We walk through all these together and provide a place for friendship, prayer, and connection. We meet in Ranchlands on the first and third Thursdays of each month for a meal, to play games, and to read scripture together. We call ourselves the “Medium Adults” - we’re not young, we’re not old, we’re medium! Talk to Kristen and Caleb Kokura or contact the church office for more information.
