volunteer opportunity on our property!
We are looking for volunteers to help with the construction of the stage in our new sanctuary! All those who would like to help will need to first go through an orientation in order to be allowed to work on the construction site. The date of this orientation has yet to be set. If you're interested, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. Watch for future volunteer opportunities in the Spring as we start landscaping work!
Missionary Visitors Coming October 22
Tim and Michelle Eby serve as career missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene in Dakar, Senegal. Tim works in leadership development and church growth in the country of Senegal as well as assisting the Field Strategy Coordinator across the Africa West Field. Michelle serves as the treasurer for the field and supports local ministry. Pray for them as they support the AWF leadership, coordinate partnerships, and lead volunteer teams to develop training centers all across the 16 countries of West Africa.
The Eby's will be moving to South Africa this late fall to take on new roles with the Africa Region. Please pray for them as they prepare for this move and transition.
Tim grew up on the mission field in Papua New Guinea with his parents Lee and Carol Ann Eby. He felt a call on his life to mission service at the age of 16 and pursued his education in aviation at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. Michelle is also a missionary kid from Beirut, Lebanon where her parents Larry and Sharon Buess served with the church of the Nazarene. Tim and Michelle met at Trevecca Nazarene University and with similar goals and calling in life were married in 1987. In 1988, with a B.S. in Aviation Technology, his commercial pilot licenses, and all his mechanic ratings, Tim began his career in aviation in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the next 9 years he gained experience before being deployed as a missionary pilot to East Africa.
In August of 1997, they were assigned as Nazarene missionaries to the Africa East Field to open the work for Nazarene Mission Aviation. They also worked to expand the church through out East Africa until 2003. The Ebys took a three-year leave of absence serving as youth pastors in Moscow, ID. Tim completed his masters in Christian education with an emphasis in youth and children ministries. He also completed his course of study and was ordained as a minister in April of 2006 on the Northwest District. Their children are Chris, who is married to Cristen with twin boys and a girl living in Seattle and serving in the US Army; Heather, who is married to Marc Trembly living in Valparaiso, IN and graduated from Olivet Nazarene University; Amber, attended Trevecca Nazarene University, married to Derek and just recently completely her masters in counseling ; and Jonathan, is a student at Trevecca Nazarene University.
God continues to work through the ministry of Tim and Michelle as they serve Him on the mission field. Their passion is to see the development of national leaders who will lead the church in Africa to maturity and significance. Their positions require much travel and great wisdom as they develop tools of evangelism and discipleship that are effective for the African context. Please pray that God will give them strength, wisdom, and safety as they teach and preach the Good News of Christ.
We will take special missionary offering on Sunday, October 22nd during their visit with us!

missional community at Skyview
Our Associate Pastor, Ryan, is currently working towards:
- Discerning the place of missional communities within our church, and;
- Overseeing the development and implementation of these communities.
The three-fold focus within missional community is: communion with God, deepening relationships within the church community, and reaching out to those outside the church. Ryan’s role in this first year will be to discern along with others within our community the way that this threefold focus can be embodied within our church context.
Stay tuned for more to come!
The main floor in our sanctuary has been poured! In the coming week our basement floor, foyer, office, nursery, and kitchen floor will be poured. Check out the cross inserts on the main floor in the photos below.
An opportunity to tour our building progress is coming up! Join us on October 15th during our regular service for an update from our Property Committee, to be followed by an open time for touring the building after service!

Missions Trip – Matt Mensinga
My name is Matt Mensinga and I will be working with the Samaritan Foundation in Sosua in the Dominican Republic for one year. The Samaritan Foundation's focus is building villages to help the extremely poor have access to shelter, education, church facilities and medical treatment. They also partner with other groups to help staff these facilities and train local Dominicans so they can become increasingly self-sufficient. I am incredibly excited for this opportunity as it will allow me to use my construction knowledge to help people in need in a practical way!
I will be working directly with The Samaritan Foundation as the main construction supervisor. This will include overseeing new projects, organizing building projects for the teams that volunteer, supervising the local Dominican workers that work for the Samaritan Foundation, and even teaching construction classes at the trade school.
If you would be interested in supporting me in this work, either through prayer or financially, I would greatly appreciate it! You can donate online through The Samaritan Foundation's website or send a cheque to their head office but it is important to put my name in the message box online or on the cheque so they know who the money if for. Also, if you could let me know so I can keep track of it that would be fantastic! If you would like more information please feel free to contact me or visit The Samaritan Foundations website!
Contact the church office to get in touch with Matt personally!
‘Adopt’ a University Student
Home Away from Home is a ministry that connects international students at the University of Calgary with a local church family. It has been very encouraging to hear stories of how it has touched both the students and the Skyview families who welcome them! With new students expected to arrive in January, the program is looking for new families to match them with! If you are interested in hearing more about this program or getting involved, visit their website and/or speak to Richard Ashton! Join us this Sunday to learn more!
Did you know?
Here at Skyview we regularly support missions both right here in Calgary and world wide through our district and denomination, which you can learn more about at Nazarene Missions International, as well as through partnership with two specific ministries:
Seed of Hope
The Seed of Hope is a community development ministry in the rural outskirts of Durban, South Africa, that supports the community through programs focused on education and care. Learn more about who they are and how you can get involved here. Visit our missions page for more updates!
Youth unlimited calgary
Youth Unlimited is a community organzation that focuses on the support of young people through programs that assist them with all needs, from physical and emotional health and well being, spiritual support, employment support, and support of the whole family through times of difficulty. Learn more about this organization here, or take a look at their latest newsletter.
Our district NYI (Nazarene Youth International) were recently challenged to join The Justice Movement – a voice for justice and compassion in the world. The movement is made of kids, students, young adults, families, and churches that believe they can make a difference in each other’s lives. The movement amplifies the voice of the weak and responds to their needs. A number of Skyview youth, young adults and leaders have taken up the Just Water challenge – drinking only water for a select period of time, while raising awareness and funds for the global water crisis. Read their stories on the Just Water page and see how you can encourage, pray for and donate.
Coffee for Guys!
Join a group of men for coffee conversation, and Christian fellowship. Men’s coffee is a great opportunity to discuss current events and sports, share burdens, and plan activities like hikes, hockey or service events. Come on out and contribute to the lives of fellow Christian men and bring a friend. This group meets every second Saturday morning at 9am at Cora's in Northland Mall.
