Over the past 18 months we have been on a journey as pastors’, board members, ministry leaders, members and attendees to answer the question: What does God desire for Skyview? Many faith communities respond to God’s plan in their own unique, theological and contextual ways. We realized the need to do the same and to become clear and intentional on how we would faithfully respond to what God has called us to be at this particular place and point in time.
Through dialogue, discernment, prayer and waiting, clarity began to slowly emerge. We began to see that God was calling us to be a community of faith and transformation. As a community of faith we are to invite and encourage others to place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as a foundational step toward knowing God. We also realized that our faith in Jesus was not the end goal but the starting point to a life of transformation. This transformation is not only for our personal benefit but also for the renewal and blessing of our city and our world. Simply put:
We exist to help people come to know Jesus and to grow into mature followers in Him for the sake of our city and our world.
Beginning September 14th I will be preaching on the values that will shape us as we grow into this vision of faith and transformation. The five key values are:
Communion with God
Throughout this vision series and during the course of our weekly worship service I will be inviting active participation in the ongoing shaping and strengthening of our vision. Opportunity will be given for creatively engaging the weekly theme by submitting questions via text or paper during the sermon. I will take time following each sermon to respond to some of the questions in our service.
General feedback will also be encouraged via email or by talking with a pastor, church board member or ministry leader. I pray that we will together embrace what God is inviting us to be. Great days are ahead and I am excited to see how we come together as a church to embrace our calling.
