When Kingdoms Collide!
Tuesday, January 11th, 2011“I am not religious!”
This is a response I have heard many times and from various people over the years. It comes part and parcel with my vocation as a Christian minister. Whether it be the server at a restaurant or the passenger sitting next to me on the airplane; people often respond to my vocation with these four words, “I am not religious!” It would startle them and even some church attendees today to realize that Jesus was not religious. In fact, he had very little patience for those who considered themselves religious and reserved some of his strongest criticism for the religious leaders of his day.
When Kingdoms Collide is a series of messages drawn from the teaching of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel referred to as ‘The Sermon on the Mount.’ Jesus addresses the shortcomings of religion and paints a provocative picture of what it means to live in the way of God’s kingdom. I invite you to join me as we take a journey together toward a deeper understanding of what it means to be Christian and not religious.
